Today I wrote from about 6:20-6:50 am. I outlined a new manuscript I'll be co-authoring for a special issue. Similar to the one I submitted earlier in the challenge, it is looking at using pedagogies in higher ed to foster posthuman understandings, which I argue is an ethical imperative in the Anthropocene. It's also in line with my "putting complex/vital materialist theory to work in concrete ways" agenda. I'm really excited about it. We will use 3 concrete examples of pedagogical practice (actual lessons we teach) to ground three key conceptual understandings: 1. Moving toward a posthuman perspective includes interrogating imposed binaries of a humanistic worldview that have perpetuated oppressions throughout history (Johnny's example); 2. Moving from dualism to monism means seeing the world as one plane of matter that produces infinite variations of multiplicities or assemblages of human-nonhuman-discursive elements (Katie's example); 3. Decentering the human means recognizing the agency of the material, and understanding that human-material entanglements or assemblages produce situated knowledge and practice (Tammy's example).
Wrote this AM from about 6:30 to 6:55 (always some interruptions along the way). Still sorting through additional references to finish revisions. Katie did you mention at a meeting about writing about pedagogical approaches from a personal point of view? I know I am not remembering the details but would like to connect with you. Completely out of my area but would like to see if there are options for writing up new approaches that I am taking in class. Thanks.
Thanks to my colleagues Mari and Katie I wrote for half an hour on a conference proposal submission regarding the relationship between professional development and teacher attrition.

ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa- yes, it's a research genre (self-study of teaching practices) that I adore. Shoot me an email and let's chat about it!
DeleteThanks will do this week!
